Where are you based?
I live in Wixom, MI and I take photos all over the surrounding Southeast Michigan area.
Where should we take our photos?
Photo sessions can take place anywhere from an urban location with lots of brick and cool graffiti to a field with tall grass and wildflowers. I also love doing lifestyle shoots at your home and that is where the majority of my newborn sessions take place. Or maybe we can visit somewhere special to your family like a local park or the zoo. Anywhere that has beautiful warm natural light and interesting backdrops sounds awesome to me. I have lots of suggestions for local spots and I’d love to hear your ideas as well!
What style of photography do you specialize in?
My main focus and my heart is in lifestyle sessions of babies, kids, high school seniors and families. I am passionate about capturing real moments, genuine laughter and even some serious faces. Because, while I totally believe there is a need for photos taken when everyone is in their prettiest clothes and smiling at the camera, I also believe that you are one day going to want to see the full range of your kids’ expressions in beautiful photos as well. You will miss the way your son stuck out his pouty lip when he’s tired or the way your daughter absentmindedly twirled her hair. I want to capture all of those moments for you because those are the types of moments that are important to me as a mom too. So, we’ll get the pictures with everyone looking at the camera and smiling, but we’ll also get lots of candid lifestyle photos too.
Why should I choose custom photography?
There are few things in this world that can stop time like a photograph can. They can preserve important details about your family forever and they can help to remind us of some of the best moments in our lives. For that reason, I don’t believe family portraits should be one-size-fits-all. They can and should be the most personalized and irreplaceable works of art that you acquire. They should tell your real story and authentically capture your family. These photographs will one day become part of your legacy, to be shared with your children, your grandchildren and generations beyond. Photographer Aaron Siskind said it best: “Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever, it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything”. Custom photography is all about capturing the details that make this time in your life special and creating a beautiful set of images that are entirely you and no one else. Years from now, your children will love seeing images of how your family changed from year to year and what it was that made each chapter in your family’s story so unique. Investing in custom photography is an amazing gift to give to your family that they will treasure forever.
Why choose Light Wings Photography?
It is so important to choose the right photographer for you. All professional photographers have a distinct shooting and editing style and have probably spent a lot of time discovering the kinds of images they want to produce. For me, the images that make me the happiest are bright and vibrant images capturing something real about your family, whether it’s your mutual love of board games or how tickle fights are a nightly ritual. And when you combine that with genuine expressions, lots of giggles, and some yummy golden sunlight, you get one very happy photographer right here. What you won’t find here is traditional posed images or trendy edits that change from year to year. So, if you love my style and want me to take pictures of your family, fantastic! I’m in! I would love to work with you to create a collection of vibrant one-of-a-kind images of you and your family.
When did you become a photographer?
2nd grade? That’s when I placed in my first photography contest. No big deal. Actually, I have enjoyed photography throughout my life and it has always been a way to bond with my Dad, who shares my love of photography and appreciates my extensive gear wish list. I did my first “photo shoot” of my sister when she was pregnant with my nephew in 2009. Since then, I’ve spent a ridiculous number of hours shooting, editing and learning everything I can about photography through in-person and online classes, workshops, a fantastic mentorship with one photographer and assisting and shooting alongside some other amazing photographers, watching so many YouTube videos, reading books and articles as well as some good ole’ practice practice practice. Light Wings Photography was made official when we registered the company name on our wedding anniversary in 2013 and filed the rest of our paperwork with the state on Valentine’s Day in 2014.
In a word, yes.
In lots more words: I am first and foremost a stay-at-home mom and wife and I absolutely love volunteering at my daughter’s school and being that super involved mom. For that reason, I limit the number of portrait sessions that I take every month and generally do not take any sessions from December-February. Not only does this allow me more time with my family, but it also allows me the time to learn and grow as a photographer, work on some personal projects, (such as my fine art prints) and it allows me ample time to ensure the kind of attentive service that I want to provide for the families that I do book throughout the year.
