When my mentor, Aubri of Pink Sky Photography, asked me to take some lifestyle images of her newborn baby girl and their family, I was a tad nervous. Super honored, but also kind of like “say whaaattt?” Let’s just paint a picture here: I have followed Aubri’s work for years. I hired her to take Brielle’s 1-year pictures back in 2012, partly to get great pictures of my daughter and partly just to meet one of my photography idols. Last year, we set up a mentoring session and spent the day together discussing business, editing and finding balance in our lives. And then my mentorship continued when she asked me to second shoot three weddings for her last year. I’ve learned so much from Aubri and couldn’t possibly thank her enough for all she has taught me and all that she has opened my eyes and heart to about photography, being a working mom and life in general. She’s a huge inspiration to me and many others and if you haven’t followed her yet, I highly recommend it.
So…when Miss. Piper Rose arrived we set up plans for their lifestyle newborn session. I used to think taking pictures of other photographers and their families would be nerve-wracking, but it is actually so much fun. You have two people instead of one, looking for light, adjusting poses, and taking the time to play and be creative. And taking extra time also means we were able to capture lots of beautiful images of family snuggles, tickles, laughter and Piper dreaming sweet baby dreams.
